More Than a Method - How Horses Help Us Grow
What if your horse felt safe simply because you were there? What if people did, too?
That is the feeling many students describe after working with Piet Nibbelink. It is not just about horse training. It is about learning to carry the kind of energy that makes horses feel calm… and humans feel at home.
In this group interview, four students reflect on their time with Piet. Some have been studying with him since 2009. Others are newer to his work. But all describe a similar shift: from doing to being, from control to connection.
One student shared how the tools she learned to support her horses now help her human clients as well—especially young people. Emotional and social learning becomes natural when the energy between you feels safe. “Life is beautiful,” she said, “and the horses help people feel that again.”
Another recalled a pivotal moment at her own stable, when Piet simply asked: Why not create a paradise for horses, too? That single question sparked a transformation. They added more freedom, more nature, more space to just be a horse. “Now,” she said, “when people visit, they feel it immediately. Even a teenage girl cried the first time she saw it—not because anything sad happened, but because the horses felt so good.”
This work is not about techniques. It is about presence. “I realised,” one student reflected, “that it is me. I am responsible for the connection I create. The energy around me is what horses respond to—and people too.”
Another student summed it up this way: “I’m sad about the mistakes I’ve made. But I’m grateful for the ones I’ll make now—with this new knowledge.”
Because this is not a learning process. It is a growing process.
And yes, learning comes first. But once you’ve grown into it—once you embody the feeling—you do not need to think so much. You just are. And your horses feel it.
That is what Introduction to the World of the Horses offers: a doorway into this kind of presence. It is short, accessible, and designed to bring you closer to your horse—and to yourself.
Because at the heart of all this work is a feeling: That life is beautiful. Even on the bad days. And especially with a horse beside you.
